PRESS RELEASE…PRESS RELEASE…

Kali/JKD/Silat Camp

December 11th & 12th 2005, Sydneysiders had a rare opportunity to experience first hand, the magic of one of the most prominent and sought after martial arts instructors in the world, “Guro Dan Inosanto.’

Guro Dan Inosanto was in town to present a two-day seminar, on the arts of Jun Fan and the South East Asian arts of Kali/Silat. Guro Dan now in his late sixties, has often been referred to as a teacher of teachers and certainly didn’t disappoint any participants in any of his Sydney seminars held at Sydney’s Parramatta Town Hall.

Drawing from his wealth of knowledge, Guro Dan captivated 120 participants through an informative and inspiring 4-hour seminar in a way that only a true master could. Instructors and schools from various martial arts organisations were amazed at Guro Dan’s uncanny ability to convey the teachings of his late famous teacher and many of the old Filipino Kali masters. Guro Dan explained then demonstrated the finer points, subtleties and history behind his chosen topics, which left the participants in awe & inspired. It was an experience I’m sure would be welcomed by many again in the future.

Following the hugely successful Australian 2005 tour of Guro Dan Inosanto, Progressive Combat Systems is seeking expressions of interest from any individual or schools interested in attending the first of an annual Kali/JKD/Silat martial arts camp to be scheduled for late 2006. This is to be a first, in presenting the arts as taught through Guro Dan in a camp type format of this scale. The event is expected to run over two whole days, covering a multitude of different subjects relating to Kali/JKD/Silat. All Instructors teaching at this event have been personally certified by Guro Dan Inosanto to ensure the general public are educated in the teachings as taught through Guro Dan.

The objectives of the camp are:

  • To serve and promote the arts & legacy of Guro Dan Inosanto.
  • To serve as an avenue for accreditation in the arts as taught through Guro Dan Inosanto.
  • To serve as an educational suppository for the arts as taught through Guro Dan Inosanto.
  • To serve as forum where serious martial artists meet with the same desire to learn and grow.
  • To capture market awareness and visibility in ensuring the arts past down from Dan Inosanto flourish and grow in popularity.

Although no clear defined date has yet been set, it is expected that the event will be held around October long weekend of 2006. Cost and venue are yet to be worked out and will be posted on this site.
